Action Steps For Family Projects
THE FAMILY CHALLENGE
- Watch the PPF video together and then have an age-appropriate family discussion about the persecution of believers in other parts of the world. You might include a time of Bible study examining what it means to be a part of the worldwide Body of Christ, and how we are told to respond to the needs of our brothers and sisters.
- As a family, discuss and choose a PPF project (SaveTheNuba, 100Wells, or Build The Base) that you can focus on together.
- Together, get educated about that project: the people group being served, their history, their needs. Find information online. Check books out of the library. Read articles on the PPF website. Look for documentaries about that region.
- Make those needs a regular part of your prayer life together. Before meals, before bed, etc., cultivate the habit of interceding together for the people and the project you have chosen.
- If appropriate, help your children write letters to elected officials, drawing their attention to needs and asking them to act. (This is especially appropriate for a campaign like SaveTheNuba.)
- As a family, choose a goal, like selling 100 SaveTheNuba or 100Wells t-shirts, or raising $100 (or $1000!) to give towards the project you’ve chosen. Brainstorm ways to reach that goal: yard sale, pet-sitting service, etc. Make a chart to visually track your progress.
- Encourage your children to take advantage of appropriate opportunities in school to write papers or do projects related to the Sudanese people, their history, and their current sufferings. (This is a great way to make more people aware of the current situation.)
- Ask your children to come up with original ideas for ways to get involved, and then help them shape those raw ideas into workable realities.
- Use social media (facebook, twitter, blogging) to let other families know what your family is doing, and to invite them to be a part.
